Tooth Extraction
What is a Tooth Extraction?
Extractions are done to help improve your oral health and prevent bigger problems from occurring. An extraction can be done on both pediatric teeth as well as adult teeth. They are done on an as-needed basis and when other treatments are no longer an option. We perform extractions in our office safely and comfortably.
Why is a Tooth Extraction needed?
Each patient has varying needs and will require different types of extractions. We may suggest an extraction to help prevent future oral problems or if a tooth has become an issue. Some of the reasons you’ll need an extraction include:
- A wisdom tooth is impacted or unable to come in fully
- A baby tooth is being stubborn in falling out on its own
- A tooth is loose due to gum disease
- A tooth is severely decayed
- A tooth has cracked or broken far below the gum line

What makes you a candidate for a Tooth Extraction?
We first perform an examination and take x-rays to help determine if an extraction is needed. Most often, extractions are done only after other treatments have failed or at the request of the patient. In other cases, an extraction is necessary in preventing future problems from developing, as is the case with impacted wisdom teeth. You can expect extractions to be easy, quick and entirely helpful to your oral health.
What can you expect during a typical Tooth Extraction?
We begin with an examination and consultation to determine if and when an extraction is needed. We then administer a local anesthetic or sedative as per your request. Next, we’ll remove the tooth using specialized instruments and tools. Sutures may be applied to close the gums and promote healing. We then send you home with important aftercare instructions to help the surgical site to heal properly. The extraction procedure is done quickly and comfortably, and we always offer other treatment options before fully removing one or more of your teeth.
